Slovenian subtitling guidelines to be presented in October 2020

Association of Slovenian film and TV translators (DSFTP) is planning a joint event with the EU Directorate-General representative in Slovenia in the framework of Translating Europe Workshop to be held on October 22 in the EU House in Ljubljana. The presentation of the Slovenian subtitling guidelines with the title Subtitling, between science and arts will be accompanied by a workshop, and the target audience will be translators, language editors, students, filmmakers, translation agencies and general public.

There will be video statements by three members of AVTE (Amalie Foss, Jean-François Cornu and Henrik W. Johnsen) talking about the history of dubbing and subtitling, the background of national guidelines, and presenting AVTE’s opinion on them. Professor Jan Pedersen of Stockholm University will participate in a video conference and have a discussion with the audience.

There will be presentations and lectures on subtitling by representatives of the Translation Department of the University of Ljubljana, the Slovenian national broadcaster (Televizija Slovenija), the Slovenian Cinematheque (Slovenska kinoteka), and others.

A member of DSFTP will prepare a short video presentation of practical aspects of subtitling.
